Possibly the most dramatic change to a living room we have done .... the
old wood floors could not be salvaged, so new flooring was laid along
with new texture / paint. The opening reveals the far dining area and
brings this home firmly into the 21st century! |
Classic painted brick fireplace with zero character .... transformed
into an elegant focal point by cladding in 16x24 chiseled edge tumbled
travertine. Note the stone chair rail edging around the hearth, and the
small stone pencil edge accent around the firebox. An interesting fact
here - this tile wall laid with no grout whatsoever, just tightly butted
together to give a Roman 'dry-fit limestone' effect with lots of
character. |
We completely opened up this living area by removing the old door and
windows and adding an extension for the new breakfast area. The kitchen
'pass-through' was then enlarged to accommodate a new breakfast bar. The
perfect space for entertaining! |
We converted this 'add-on' extension to be fully integrated with the
existing living area. In addition, we knocked out the old windows and
installed 4 new picture windows to give an open view of the back garden.
Note the soft arches in the 'after' photo. The flooring is solid bamboo
hardwoods. |
This dramatic transformation features a new opening to the kitchen and a
granite top breakfast bar. The old wetbar was removed and then the
fireplace was clad in travertine tile with stone accents. Finally, a new
handscraped wood laminate floor was laid. Note the beautiful bronze
pencil accents around the fireplace opening! |
This large living room had original dated parquet flooring which was
removed. A new handscraped distressed hickory hardwood floor was then
laid throughout the living and hallway areas. We also added 2 floor
electrical outlets into the slab, with brushed brass covers, for table
lamps etc. |
The same living room above had a fairly unattractive brick fireplace. We
sheetrocked over the upper part, repainted the mantle and added fluted
wood columns, and then finished off with chiseled edge travertine and an
elegant stone chair rail edge. |
We removed the brass fireguard on this 1990's brick fireplace, and then
we changed the rounded corners to be at a 45 degree angle by cutting the
brick and adding Hardibacker to fill out the spaces. The new tile
comprises 3" mosaics with bronzed tinted shades. The edges are 2" stone
chair rail pieces in 'Noce' color. We then finished the look with Pearl
Grey grout and finally a high gloss sealer for this elegant fireplace
makeover. |
The entry hall also had parquet flooring which was replaced with
gorgeous "Tuscan Walnut" straight edge travertine. |
This modest home was updated throughout - the den had new handscraped
12mm Hickory wood laminates installed which are almost as good as the real thing! The
walls were retextured and painted, and the fireplace painted in 'dark
cavern' color. |
Another view of the same den - we removed all the old paneling and
retextured/painted. |
This house featured the formal living / dining room with original
black & white tiles and mirrors from the disco era! We modernized with
new paint / texture and a stunning frieze carpet. |
This same home was updated by removing the old siding and windows at the
rear, and we installed new French doors and modern Hardiboard siding. |
The same home again - this living area transformed with new travertine
tile fireplace. Note we removed the old built-ins to gain space for the
TV etc. |
Depressing original gray brick fireplace was totally transformed with
travertine columns and hearth, and a stunning slate pattern for the
center section. WOW !! |
Another dreadful 60's brick fireplace, again beautified with 16x24
chiseled edge travertine and stone chair rail accents! |
We demolished this old plain marble wetbar and installed a new granite
surface (Uba Tuba) and a gorgeous stainless undermount sink with brushed
nickel swan-type faucet. A new tumbled marble backsplash was added and
the cabinets repainted with new 6" stainless cabinet pulls. A
fabulous makeover for a '70's wetbar! |
Cluttered fireplace was simplified by removing the shelving unit and
putting back the original mantle. We painted the brick in "Dark Cavern"
color along with the ceiling beams. New wood laminate flooring and new
paint totally updates this modest home. |
We removed the wrought iron railings to open up this living/ding area.
Chair rails were added to the dining room section with a new 2-tone
color scheme. Finally, new wood laminates, carpet and chandelier were
installed for a beautiful makeover. |
This bland dining room was upgraded with handscraped wood hickory
hardwood flooring and a new color palette. |
The same home as above with an upgraded formal living room. |
Typical 90's tiled fireplace was updated with new slate tile for the
hearth and surround. |
A simple paint makeover for walls and ceilings transforms this large
den. Note we also replaced the old can lights with new compact halogens
and added a new ceiling fan. |
